Building a realistic technical roadmap for a startup
A useful technical roadmap should protect delivery speed, not slow it down. A common mistake is to stack redesigns with no direct connection to business goals.
Principles I use
- Every technical initiative should reduce a concrete risk: performance, security or critical debt.
- Every quarter should preserve at least 60% of capacity for user value.
- Internal improvements should be measured with simple indicators: build time, incidents and resolution time.
Result
The team keeps a clear direction. The product keeps moving while its technical foundation improves progressively.
